Yield Dynamics, Inc. announced today that Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq:XLNX), the world's leading provider of programmable logic See PLD.  solutions, has purchased its Genesis Workflow development platform for custom yield management methodology development. Yield Dynamics and Xilinx have also collaborated on extending the workflow platform with additional value-driven capabilities for fabless semiconductor companies A fabless semiconductor company specializes in the design and sale of hardware devices implemented on semiconductor chips. It achieves an advantage by outsourcing the fabrication of the devices to a specialized semiconductor manufacturer called a semiconductor foundry or "fab.  and outsourced manufacturing collaboration.

Xilinx purchased Yield Dynamics' Genesis Fabless software solution in 2000 to manage yields for various foundry production processes. The Workflow development platform enables Xilinx to create custom yield management analysis methodologies using a graphical programming environment and "drag and drop A graphical user interface (GUI) capability that lets you perform operations by moving the icon of an object with the mouse into another window or onto another icon. For example, files can be copied or moved by dragging them from one folder to another. " interface. The workflows may be saved and run automatically at predefined times and intervals, and may embody complex linked event chains, all without requiring a single line of programming code to be written. By applying the yield enhancement tools, we have achieved automated monitoring and yield improvement of our outsourced manufacturing process. The addition of Workflow capability to our platform leverages our software investment by affording all of our engineers the ability to develop custom yield analysis flows with minimal effort, allowing us to effectively adapt our yield enhancement efforts to new products and evolving foundry production processes in a timely fashion."
