Xilinx Makes $1 Million Virtex-E FPGA Donation to Universities Through the Celoxica University Programme.

Business/High Tech Editors

ABINGDON, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 12, 2001

Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq:XLNX) has donated over $1 million worth of its Virtex-E XCV2000E field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) to universities through the Celoxica University Programme.

The donation will allow more universities to leverage Celoxica's new DK1 design suite for rapid design and prototyping in flexible hardware at less cost.

Daryl RuDusky, vice president of marketing at Celoxica said, "DK1 is a high-level design The introduction to this article provides insufficient context for those unfamiliar with the subject matter.

environment targeting reconfigurable hardware that helps customers bring designs to market faster and cheaper than ever before. We believe our approach represents the way forward for electronics design and we are committed to investing in that future. The Celoxica University Programme is a clear demonstration of that commitment and Xilinx's donation tears down cost barriers for our university partners so that the impact of our technologies can be felt more widely."

Patrick Kane Patrick Kane (born November 19, 1988 in Buffalo, New York) is an American ice hockey player. He is currently playing for the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks. He went to St. Martin of Tours school. , University Program manager of Xilinx said, "Xilinx and Celoxica have an existing partnership born from the desire to foster and encourage innovation in the electronics industry. The foundation of this new partnership is a drive to raise the quality levels of training available to future IT engineers. At Xilinx we recognize the value of the Celoxica University Programme as an effective vehicle for achieving this and harnessing the skills of future recruits. We feel that introducing innovation at this level encourages its continuation once the engineers move into the working environment."

The Xilinx XCV2000E FPGAs will be mounted on Celoxica's RC1000-PP boards for rapidly prototyping new designs, such as the 32-bit Logarithmic logarithmic

Dr. Jiri Kadlec of the Czech Institute said, "The high cost of tooling can be prohibitive for universities. But it is important for us to keep abreast Verb 1. keep abreast - keep informed; "He kept up on his country's foreign policies"

It could have a big impact on the industry in the future. The reduced cost of the boards means that our students can benefit from this technology today."

The Celoxica University Programme was established in January 1999 to build awareness of Celoxica's Handel-C programming language and its C-to hardware design methodology on course curriculums as well as to provide commercial assistance to universities designing their own intellectual property (IP). At the outset Xilinx donated 63 Virtex XCV 1000-6 parts. This latest donation makes ten times more chips available. Projects that have benefited from the Celoxica /Xilinx partnership include research into dynamic reconfiguration, neural networks, system-on-a-chip design, and image and communications processing, across 50 international universities.

Wayne Luk of Imperial College of Science, Technology & Medicine London said, "We get a lot out of the scheme. Last year one of our students used the technology to win the national Best Project '99 Award. We are delighted that we will be able to receive ongoing support from both Celoxica and Xilinx with the added benefit of a bigger device."

The winner of the national Best Project '99 Award designed a flexible real-time Graphics engine in Handel-C and prototyped the design on a Celoxica RC1000PP development board-- a high performance PCI (1) (Payment Card Industry) See PCI DSS.

The Virtex architecture was designed in conjunction with Xilinx's synthesis partners in order to assure maximum performance, predictability, and simplified integration of intellectual property. The Virtex E's success is due to the enormous acceptance by design engineers and systems architects who find the range of densities and robust features coupled with high performance offer the best platform for system development.
