Xicor adds high voltage XDCP product family X9318-series.

Xicor, Inc. (Nasdaq:XICO) has introduced the X9318 family of 100-tap, nonvolatile digitally programmable potentiometers to expand its current broad offering of products. These potentiometers can operate up to 8 V, allowing extra dynamic range for higher voltage applications. Operation at 8 V across the potentiometer is allowed while the digital control operates between 0 V and 5 V. The X9318 potentiometer features a 100-tap wiper with 99-segmented resistors and a Rtotal of 10k Ohm. Using the UP/DOWN interface, the system designer can adjust the wiper position to the setting that provides the optimal system performance. In addition this setting can be stored in the internal EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable ROM) A rewritable memory chip that holds its content without power. Although EEPROMs spawned flash memory, EEPROMs are byte addressable at the write level, whereas flash chips must erase a block of bytes before rewriting.  memory. Overall, the device eliminates the need for an on-board microcontroller and lowers post-trim manufacturing costs for bias and control applications.

Target applications include process controls requiring retention parameters, data acquisition systems requiring pre-configured voltage reference A voltage reference is an electronic device (circuit or component) that produces a fixed (constant) voltage irrespective of the loading on the device, power supply variation and temperature.  levels and signal conditioning Imagine feeding the output of a temperature sensor, which is in millivolts, to an Analog-to-digital converter to be processed. Is it possible for the Analog-to-Digital converter to process such a minute voltage amplitude? The answer is probably no.  circuits requiring zero offset and span correction in various sensors (such as temperature, pressure, IR, strain gauge strain gauge

"Xicor provides cost-effective digital potentiometers that have voltages greater than 5 V. Many applications used for bias and control require signals between 2 V to 8 V," stated Tony Ochoa, marketing manager of Linear Products. "Often these higher voltages are seen in applications such as LCD bias control, DC bias adjustments of power amplifiers, gain and offset trim of amplifiers, laser diode bias control and voltage regulator output control."
