"Since banks have historically been the providers of trust and security in commerce, PKI-enabled electronic commerce represents an incredible opportunity for financial institutions," said Kawika Daguio. "Xcert's highly flexible and scalable PKI and digital certificate technology provides ABAecom with a tool to transfer that historic trust to electronic transactions, which is essential for building the trusted relationships that will make electronic commerce pay off."

ABAecom and DST are providing financial institutions with the ability to issue digital certificates. As part of the PKI-enabling program, Web sites registered by ABAecom can use these certificates in conjunction with a seal program and validation mechanism called "SiteCertain," assuring end users that they are visiting a legitimate bank's Web site. Each participating organization displays the SiteCertain logo on its Web site.

ABAecom also uses a DST implementation of Xcert's Sentry CA software to deploy another CA that can be used to cross certify ABA member institutions' PKIs. Only institutions that adhere to adhere to
