Xcel Energy Selects PCI Software for MISO Solution.

NORMAN, Okla. -- Power Costs Inc. (PCI) announced today that Xcel Energy (NYSE:XEL) has selected PCI GenManager(TM) to support its bid-and-offer activities with the Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator (MISO).

"We see the potential for significant benefits in using the PCI GenManager(TM) suite over other solutions we investigated," said Eric Pierce, managing director of energy trading at Xcel Energy.

PCI GenManager(TM) has been implemented for generation supply management at other MISO and PJM participants. Xcel Energy selected PCI as its preferred vendor to provide market participation solutions following a thorough evaluation process of competing systems.

According to PCI Vice President Walter Hobbs, "Northern States Power Co., an Xcel Energy operating company, was PCI's first customer in 1994 for our asset optimization solution, so it is very fitting that Xcel Energy would choose to adopt our latest tools for market participation."

PCI GenManager(TM) provides automatic creation and analysis of a variety of bid-and-offer alternatives each day, communication with MISO, and shadow settlements on market results. Xcel Energy also plans to utilize PCI GenTrader for portfolio optimization across all of its operating companies (NSP, Public Service Co. of Colorado and Southwestern Public Service Co.).

PCI GenManager(TM) is aimed at optimizing profits in LMP-based two-settlement markets. Combined with PCI GenTrader(R) for portfolio optimization and PCI GenPortal(R) for workflow automation, PCI GenManager(TM) completes the PCI Generation Supply Management System(TM).
