Xcel Energy Seeking 'Non-Wind' Renewable Energy for Southwest.


AMARILLO, Texas -- Xcel Energy has issued a request for proposals for about 40,500 megawatt-hours of annual renewable energy or renewable energy certificates Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), also known as Green tags, Renewable Energy Credits, or Tradable Renewable Certificates (TRCs), are the property rights to the environmental benefits from generating electricity from renewable energy sources.  to be generated from renewable technologies other than wind turbines.

The energy or renewable energy certificates (RECs) must be available by Sept. 30, 2010. The energy would serve customers of Xcel Energy's Southwestern Public Service Company in the South Plains and Panhandle of Texas, eastern and southeastern New Mexico, the Oklahoma Panhandle and southwest Kansas.

Eligible technologies are: solar, hydropower, geothermal, fuel cells that are not fossil-fueled, landfill gas and anaerobically digested waste biomass, and biomass - including fuels such as agricultural and animal waste, small diameter timber, salt cedar and other phreatophyte phre·at·o·phyte
