XSCRIBE PROVIDES U.S. SENATE WITH NETWORKED XEC-2001 COMPUTER-ASSISTED TRANSCRIPTION SYSTEM TO AUTOMATE PRODUCTION OF THE CONGRESSIONAL RECORD
SAN DIEGO, April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Xscribe Corp. (NASDAQ: XSCR) announced an agreement with the Office of the Secretary, United States Senate, to provide necessary hardware, software and technical assistance for a Networked Computer Aided Transcription (CAT) XEC-2001 system. XEC-2001 is a state-of-the-art PC-based CAT system which is now installed to replace proprietary systems in the office of Official Reporters of Debates to automate the production of the Congressional Record.
The Xscribe software's user interface and edit functions are essentially the same as that currently used by the staff in the Official Reporter's office, thus eliminating extensive retraining of personnel. It will also provide a link with the Office of Captioning Services, U.S. Senate, to which Xscribe provided software and hardware in April 1991. The Office of Captioning Services produces closed captions of Senate chamber proceedings for the hearing impaired.
The networked XEC-2001 system will allow conversion of the Reporters' documents to WordPerfect format, thus allowing senators and their designated staff to edit the transcript using a computer rather than a pencil, as they must currently do. Senators will also be able to submit statements on a diskette in WordPerfect format (in addition to the original paper copy of the statement which must be submitted at the desk in the Senate Chamber). These statements plus the edited transcript can then be sent to the Government Printing Office (GPO) electronically for printing in the Record.
Suren G. Dutia, president and chief executive officer of Xscribe Corp., stated, "We are extremely pleased and honored to continue providing software and hardware in meeting the needs of the United States Senate. We welcome this opportunity to work with and assist the Office of the Secretary, United States Senate, to accomplish the goal of automating the production of the Congressional Record."
Xscribe Corp. designs and markets a wide variety of high-technology software and hardware products for legal professionals including computer-aided transcription systems for court reporters and real-time captioning systems for the hearing impaired.
