XL doubles capacity limit on select property programs.


XL Capital Ltd. said its insurance operations has doubled its capacity limit, and will now write up to $500 million to underwrite To insure; to sell an issue of stocks and bonds or to guarantee the purchase of unsold stocks and bonds after a public issue.

The word underwrite has two meanings.
 entire global property programs on a selective basis. Where the company isn't is·n't

 able to bind an entire program, for example, and is coinsuring with another carrier, the company will continue to offer its existing $250 million capacity, instead of the new $500 million limit, the company said.
