XEROX PARC, DIALOG SIGN 2-YEAR COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH AGREEMENT
PALO ALTO, Calif., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Xerox Corporation's (NYSE: XRX) Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) and Dialog Information Services, Inc., have signed a two-year agreement for a collaborative research project to be conducted at the PARC facilities here.
The companies said the project will focus on furthering current PARC research in the information services area and expanding Dialog's efforts aimed at more direct customer access to Dialog's data.
Dialog will provide PARC researchers with test portions of its electronic database to permit further study of information organization, access, browsing, visualization and dissemination. The agreement also facilitates research targeted at improving information-based human work processes and computer interface methods.
Patrick J. Tierney, president of Palo Alto-based Dialog Information Services, said the agreement is "an important step forward in Dialog's goal of enhancing the information services it provides its customers."
John Seely Brown, Xerox chief scientist and director of PARC, said the agreement "is the kind of cooperative collaboration that will help keep the United States competitive in the world marketplace."
He said that "gaining facilitated access to collections of information currently in actual use is vital in our quest to develop systems and system components related to information services."
