XEROX LAUNCHES PRINTXCHANGE 2.0 MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE.Xerox Corporation (NYSE:XRX) has launched PrintXchange 2.0, a new release of its scalable, multi-platform output management software that addresses the requirements for ad hoc printing from office applications and event-driven printing from business applications. Xerox PrintXchange 2.0 takes the guesswork out of printing by examining the specific characteristics of each document, and delivering the job to the most appropriate device. This type of routing is based on rules that can be easily adapted and defined to meet the changing needs of any office environment. PrintXchange 2.0 also provides administrators with a single source of control over enterprise printing. With a few mouse clicks, an administrator can add a new printer to the PrintXchange server, making it immediately available to users. The format in which information is shared is consistent for all devices across the network, requiring no additional training time or a rash of calls to the help desk. New features also include: -- Job Size Scheduling - sends documents that exceed a certain page limit to lower cost-per-page printers. -- Self-Repairing Printing - routes jobs to the best available resource when a network resource becomes unavailable -- Vital Sign Monitoring - monitors hundreds of events pertinent to the user and can deliver reports to a user's workstation display, electronic mailbox, pager, or mobile phone. -- One-Size-Fits-All - eliminates training required for users to take maximum advantage of production printers by making printing to complex production printers as easy as printing to small workgroup printers. -- State of the Art Graphical User Interface - new easy to use configurable user interface that provides insight to the network print environment never before available on one display. -- Customized Transaction Logging -- tracks and logs user, document, and printer information (including actual number of pages printed) in a format that is simple to incorporate into existing reporting systems. In addition, PrintXchange 2.0 now runs on Tru64 UNIX, Compaq's enterprise UNIX operating system, complementing the Advanced Printing Software jointly developed by Xerox and Compaq. Two kits are available for developing PrintXchange-compliant products: Software Development Kits (SDKs) for clients and applications, and Device Development Kits (DDKs) for printers, fax machines, e-mail systems and other output devices. The same open, standards-based APIs are available on Unix and Windows NT based platforms, permitting the system to be expanded with add-ons that can easily be transported from server to server. About PrintXchange Xerox PrintXchange 2.0 is software designed to manage network traffic flow problems and printing inefficiencies by enabling system administrators to track, balance and manage the stream of output across large networks, while allowing users to query printer features and get status information delivered to their desktop. PrintXchange is a certified Output Management Solution in several ERP environments, including SAP R/3. PrintXchange extends to support almost every printer on the market, including the Xerox family of production printers, multi-function devices, and network laser printers.
