XEROX DEBUTS FAX MACHINES WITH INTERNET CONNECTIVITY.

Xerox Corporation (NYSE:XRX) has debuted a new family of business, multifunction fax products designed to tie world-wide connectivity of the Internet to the fax machine.

The new five-in-one WorkCentre Pro product line offers traditional fax, copy, PC or network print, scan, and PC or LAN fax capabilities to workgroups ranging in size from one to 25 users. Some models also offer fax-to-E-mail capability.

"According to IDC, the Internet Protocol fax machine market is projected to grow from 10,000 units shipped in 1998 to 2.9 million units shipped by 2002," said Ray Valukonis, vice president and general manager, Xerox Workgroup Fax Business Team. "The advanced technologies and flexibility provided by the new WorkCentre Pro multifunction fax products are designed to increase workgroup productivity by offering Internet fax capabilities and direct network connection, resulting in one of the lowest total costs of ownership in the industry."

Internet Faxing, LAN Faxing

Fax-to-E-mail and LAN fax enable users to scan hardcopy documents into digital form and send the information to an e-mail account or another Internet fax-capable device. Users also are able to read received digital information from other Internet fax devices or e-mail accounts.

In addition, Xerox has partnered with 3Com Corp. to provide Xerox DocuLAN Fax software for WorkCentre Pro users. This software allows users to electronically fax documents using the modem capabilities on their WorkCentre instead of a fax modem board or a server.

The WorkCentre Pro models feature high speed scanning, printing, and paper capacity up to 1750 sheets. The systems are packaged with a range of software, including TextBridge Pro 9.0 scanning and OCR software, DocuLAN Fax Personal Edition version 7.0 software, and Xerox' exclusive ControlCentre software.

The Pro 665 and 765 models are available now and the Pro 555 and 575 models will be available May 1. Preliminary prices are $1,195 (Pro 555), $1,695 (Pro 575), $2,695 (Pro 665), and $3,195,(Pro 765). The Pro 685 and Pro 785 models, and DocuLAN Fax Version 8.0, will be available mid-year 2000.
