XEROX ANNOUNCES ORGANIZATIONAL MOVES; NEW OFFICER ELECTED

STAMFORD, Conn., Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Paul A. Allaire, chairman and chief executive officer of Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX), today announced several changes in the assignments of the senior management and said the company's board of directors had elected a new corporate officer.
The changes are the first since Xerox was reorganized in early 1992 and, according to Allaire, are designed to "place our executives where they can have the most impact today and broaden their experience for tomorrow." He called the action a refinement of the restructuring announced in February 1992.
Among the changes approved Monday (Oct. 11) was the selection of Richard S. Barton as president of U.S. Customer Operations (USCO), the group responsible for marketing Xerox products domestically. Barton had been chairman, president and chief executive officer of Xerox Canada Inc. Barton, 44, was also elected a corporate vice president.
He succeeds David R. Myerscough, 52, who becomes senior vice president, corporate business strategy.
Diane E. McGarry has been named president of Xerox Canada, succeeding Barton. The 44-year-old McGarry had been director, sales operations, for the United Kingdom in Rank Xerox, a joint venture between Xerox and The Rank Organisation marketing Xerox products throughout Europe.
Patrick J. Martin, 52, who was president, Americas Customer Operations, becomes president of the Office Document Products division, the largest of the company's nine business divisions.
Patricia C. Barron, 50, who had been president of the Office Document Products division, becomes president of the Engineering Systems division. She succeeds Wilbur I. Pittman, 57, who becomes vice president, organization transition.
Carlos Pascual, 48, who had been general manager, Rank Xerox France, will take over as president and general manager of Americas Customer Operations, which markets Xerox products in 60 countries throughout South and Central America, including Mexico and the Caribbean.
In other moves, Brian E. Stern, 45, who had headed the corporate business strategy office, becomes president of the Personal Document Products division, succeeding James H. Lesko, 42, whose promotion to corporate vice president responsible for USCO field operations was announced earlier this year.
The business divisions and the customer operations divisions have also been realigned under the three executive vice presidents of operations.
 A. Barry Rand, executive vice president, operations, will have the following organizations reporting to him: Personal Document Products, Xerox Engineering Systems, Xerox Business Services, Rank Xerox and Americas Customer Operations.
Peter van Cuylenburg, executive vice president, operations, will have these organizations reporting to him: Office Document Systems, Advanced Office Document Services, Document Production Systems, Printing Systems, XSoft and Strategic Relationships. Grouping the systems divisions under one executive will make it easier to deliver integrated systems offerings to customers, according to Allaire.
Wayland R. Hicks, executive vice president, operations, will have the Office Document Products division, USCO and Xerox Canada reporting to him.
All of the changes are effective immediately.
