XEROX AND AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION TO HELP PHYSICIANS CONTROL COSTS; AMA MEMBERS RECEIVE DISCOUNTS ON DOCUMENT PRODUCTS

NEW ORLEANS, Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) and the American Medical Association (AMA) today announced a marketing program that enables AMA members to receive discounts on a wide range of Xerox products. Both organizations anticipate that the program will help physicians control administrative costs and improve office productivity.
The program was announced at the annual AMA House of Delegates meeting in New Orleans.
According to the AMA, physicians' average operational expenses were $168,000 in 1991 and have been increasing at a rate of about 9 percent per year since 1982. The Xerox purchasing program is designed to help AMA members curb these escalating expenses.
Under the agreement, nearly 300,000 AMA members are eligible for discount pricing on the purchase or lease of Xerox copiers, facsimile machines, printers, electronic publishing systems and other document equipment. AMA members can expect to save up to 30 percent over list prices. This program is effective immediately.
"The health care community is under extreme pressure to continue providing superior patient services while reducing costs," said James S. Todd, M.D., executive vice president of AMA. "Several ways to reduce costs include access to lower pricing on essential office equipment and better management of documents and the information contained in them. We believe that this new Xerox program can help AMA members and medical organizations accomplish this important goal."
Prior to this agreement, small and mid-sized practices often lacked the buying power of sizable health care institutions. Now, AMA member physicians in smaller practices can gain access to discounts formerly available only to large organizations.
"As The Document Company, Xerox can help physicians control operational and administrative costs through document solutions," said Michael MacDonald, vice president of marketing, United States Customer Operations, Xerox. "We welcome the opportunity to partner with the AMA and to build business relationships with new and existing customers in the health care market."
The AMA agreement is part of a larger Xerox association marketing program. To date, Xerox has relationships with 11 associations representing more than two million members. These organizations include the American Bankers Association, American Bar Association, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, American Institute of Architects, Association of Builders & Contractors, Educational & Institutional Cooperative, National Association of Realtors, National Association of Quick Printers, Partnership Umbrella, and Printing Industries of America.
