X-rays help cops to nail 35 in drug raid.

AN X-ray scanner which sees through suspects' clothes was hailed a 'fantastic success' last night after it helped police make 35 arrests in a drugs raid.

The pounds 120,000 machine was used in Harlesden, north London, by police targeting two pubs frequented by members of the Jamaican Lock City Crew gang.

Suspects were given the choice of either a strip search or standing in front of the new scanner.

It uses low radiation Xrays to penetrate one 10th of an inch into the skin. The radiation is 1500 times less than a normal chest X-ray.

Detective Chief Superintendent Steve James said: 'It takes out the confrontation, frustration and time of strip searching.'
