X-Craft gets her water wings.

The US Navy recently took possession of its new Catamaran Sea Fighter (FSF-1)--the X-Craft. The vessel had undergone tests in a high sea state in June of this year, accelerating to over 50 knots. MTU Detroit Diesel built and supplied the main drive components for the X-Craft, including the engines, transmission and monitoring and control system. Two MTU 16V 595 diesels and another pair of GE LM 2500 gas turbines were integrated into a combined propulsion system (Combined Diesel or Gas turbine, Codog), an application that was a first for a US Navy warship. The X-Craft has a range of 4000 sea miles at 20 knots. MTU has also supplied a high-speed fibre-optic ship automation system for the vessel.
