Maybe, X Games X Games Sports medicine The official Olympics of 'extreme sports' sponsored by ESPN, held annually during the summer. See Extreme sports.  IX was meant to end this way.

How else to explain that on the day of skateboard legend Tony Hawk's final pro performance, his possible future successor would steal some of the spotlight?

It happened Sunday.

Ryan Sheckler Ryan Allen Sheckler (born December 30, 1989) is an American professional skateboarder. He is also the star of the MTV reality show, Life of Ryan. [1] Biography

Sheckler, the youngest competitor to win gold in the event's nine-year history, stole the show with a variety of flips and slides to score 93.33 points on his first run and follow it up with a 93.00 on his second run.

Defending event champion Rodil de Araujo de Araujo may refer to:

He started out riding for Beer City Skateboards. Then he went to Tampa and got discovered by Al Partanen, where he turned pro for Illenium Skateboards.

His family moved from Bangkok to California when he was 8 months old and he settled in San Bernardino when his parents divorced.  (56.67) finished last. Chris Senn (89.33) and Carlos de Andrade (86.67) rounded out the top five.

``He's just amazing,'' Bartie, who also had a near-flawless first run, said of Sheckler. ``It's up to him on how far he can go in this sport. If he continues, he could be one of the best.

``To start at 13 and do this good, it says something right there.''

Skateboarding's new prodigy, who will begin the eighth grade in a few weeks, was the only competitor to hit the mark on all of his routines, only missing on a kick-flip slide after time had expired on his second run.

``It's great to win a gold medal, it's fabulous,'' Sheckler said. ``I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

what to think right now. It feels bigger than anything I've ever done.''

That's probably because it was.

Sheckler took control of the enthusiastic crowd on his first run. He started with a double-axle parallel, then followed with a backside kick flip and a frontside rail catch. He then ended the routine with a Caballerial, a 360-degree spin down the front ramp.

``I was so nervous at the start, but it all worked out,'' said Sheckler, whose 93.33 score bumped him to the top of the leaderboard lead·er·board

. ``I guess I was lucky.''

Hardly.

De Araujo made it close on his first run. He earned a 92.67 using a Half- Cap (a 180-degree Caballerial), a 360 flip and a kick flip off the corner ramp.

Bartie took a shot at the two leaders on his final attempt. He landed a 5-0 grind but fell twice trying a pair of backslides off the center rail.

``I was really happy with my first run,'' Bartie said. ``As long as I'm happy, I don't really care where I finish.''

Sheckler, using a backside Smith grind and frontside Eagle slide, earned a 93.00 on his second run. He then clinched the event when de Araujo, the final competitor, fell trying a 360 flip off the center pyramid ramp. The defending champion fell three times during his second routine, including off a rail slide at the finish.

``I had no thought that I could actually win (Sunday),'' Sheckler said. ``I just wanted to go out there and do what I thought I could do and have fun. There were some great competitors out here, the best in the world, and I thought it was pretty cool to just compete with these guys.''
