CARSON -- Travis Pastrana Travis Alan Pastrana (born October 8, 1983, in Annapolis, Maryland) is a motorsports competitor who has won championships and X Games gold medals in several events, including supercross, motocross, freestyle motocross, and rally racing.  went for a roll and picked up the role of a lifetime.

``It's really hard to believe,'' Pastrana said. ``I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

Pastrana, 22, seemed to be everywhere at these X Games. He won the gold medal in motocross Best Trick on Friday with the first double backflip back·flip

Pastrana scored a 94.20. Adam Jones of Warrendale, Pa., was second with a 91.40, Mike Mason of Carson City, Nev., third with a 90.00 and Jim McNeil of Phoenix an 89.20. Mat Rebeaud of Temecula fell on his first run and did not make a second attempt.

``This win tops it all,'' Pastrana said. ``There were too many things that had to happen and to fall into place. I had to do the double without killing myself, I had to have someone roll their car to win rally and I had to be good here. I feel very lucky.''

Sunday's victory may have been the easiest. He didn't have to act like Jordan and win it at the last second. His toughest competition was already eliminated. Jeremy Stenberg broke a leg while keeping on the Dew Tour in Louisville, Ky., Kenny Bartram broke his shoulder and wrist practicing Friday and Nate Adams suffered a concussion on a fall in Saturday night's qualifying event.

After his first run, Pastrana tripped over television cables and aggravated a torn ACL See access control list.

``It was the stupidest thing in the world to do,'' he said of the trip.

``No one would believe me if I told them.''

Pastrana said if he had to go out again, he would not have been able to put his leg over the Suzuki's handlebars, negating several tricks.

He could not bend it while sitting on the bike after the win.

Pastrana has won eight gold medals, tied for third in X Games history. He has won six freestyle golds, losing only once, when he finished second to Nate Adams in 2004 after falling and suffering a concussion the previous night. He is also tied for sixth in total medals won with 12.

``Travis Pastrana was impossible to beat,'' Jones said.

After the victory, Ron Semiao, the creator of the X Games and ESPN's senior vice president in charge of original entertainment, gave Pastrana a thumps-up.

``Unbelievable, unbelievable,'' he said. ``It was incredibly unbelievable and so cool. Back flips, rally cars, motorcycles; Travis Pastrana is so amazing.''

The only thing he messed up in was SuperMoto. At the race's start, he fell. He finished a lap down and in ninth place.

``I messed up on SuperMoto, but I'm glad I was able to come back and put on a good show in freestyle,'' he said. ``The crowds this week have been unbelievable.''

He credits staying healthy for Sunday's victory.

``I just wanted to be healthy to set this up,'' he said. ``Some of the others were knocked out, but I was lucky to stay healthy.''
