Wyeth Japan Obtains Approval for Anti-AML Agent Mylotarg.Tokyo, Japan, July 27, 2005 - (JCNN JCNN Japan Corporate News Network ) - Wyeth Japan announced on July 25 that it has obtained approval for Mylotarg, a proprietary preparation of gemtuzumab ozogamicin, from the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare. Mylotarg is a calicheamicin-conjugated humanized anti-CD33 monoclonal antibody indicated for the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML AML - A Manufacturing Language ). AML is the most frequent leukemia in adults. Administered parenterally par·en·ter·al adj. 1. Physiology Located outside the alimentary canal. 2. Medicine Taken into the body or administered in a manner other than through the digestive tract, as by intravenous or intramuscular , Mylotarg can demonstrate a tumor cell killing effect when it binds with the CD33 antigen on the cell surface. It is anticipated that about 5,000 people will progress the disease in Japan this year.
