Wyeth Japan Obtains Approval for Anti-AML Agent Mylotarg.


Tokyo, Japan, July 27, 2005 - (JCNN JCNN Japan Corporate News Network ) - Wyeth Japan announced on July 25 that it has obtained approval for Mylotarg, a proprietary preparation of gemtuzumab ozogamicin, from the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare. Mylotarg is a calicheamicin-conjugated humanized anti-CD33 monoclonal antibody indicated for the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML AML - A Manufacturing Language ). AML is the most frequent leukemia in adults.

, Mylotarg can demonstrate a tumor cell killing effect when it binds with the CD33 antigen on the cell surface. It is anticipated that about 5,000 people will progress the disease in Japan this year.
