Wrestle mania.

I'm the only girl on the school wrestling team, and I have a crush on one of my wrestling buddies. We hang out sometimes, but would it be weird to ask him out for a date?

BILL A girl on the wrestling team is unique. A girl asking a guy friend out is natural. You two are already on common ground. I say go for it!

DAVE Danger territory, girl, if wrestling is important to you. I'm sure there are already difficulties with being the only girl in a male-dominated sport, so why complicate matters by dating a guy on the team? You don't want your sport to be the price you pay if the relationship goes down for the count.

My BF just broke up with me yesterday, and he's already met someone else. Why has he moved on so fast?

DAVE At least he got a good night's sleep before dating again. Everyone deals with breakups differently. Some cry in their Cokes for months, while others jump into new relationships. Admittedly, 24 hours is brief, but it probably has nothing to do with you. Take his cue, and move on. That doesn't mean you have to hitch up with the first guy who comes along, but nothing productive comes from dwelling on a done deal.

BILL Despite our bravado, guys can be a lot more insecure than girls. Chances are he wasn't getting the kind of adoration from you that we guys love--so he picked the next item off the shelf as soon as he could. But quick picks often come from the bargain bin and don't last.

Guys see me as a goodie-goodie and a smarty-pants. I am a nice, smart, lovable girl, but people just see me as being studious. I don't have a problem with being smart, but how can I change my image with guys this year?

BILL A great way to change your image without lowering your standards is to focus on playing a sport. You'll get in shape, gain some exposure and have more in common with a lot of guys. Get out of the library and play the field. Some cool guys are bound to notice you.

DAVE Seems pretty obvious to me.... Start tanking some exams and cussin' like a sailor on shore leave. Just kidding. Bill is correct: D-I-V-E-R-S-I-F-Y. If not sports, take your talents to the school newspaper or the music department. There's never a shortage of venues for a person like you to excel, and when you get that nose out of the history text, folks will quickly realize there is more to you than book smarts.

It seems girls are much more open about their opinions of guys. If a girl likes someone, she tells him. But guys either keep it to themselves or don't have any opinions at all. Almost every guy in my class has had a girl tell him she likes him, but very few girls have. Is my class full of shy guys?

DAVE Your class is full of normal guys. Maybe it's the girls who have mucked things up in this case. I'm assuming your class is pretty evenly split between guys and girls. If every girl in your class has told a guy she likes him, that doesn't leave a guy with much choice about which girl to pursue since they've all expressed their opinions. So what's a guy to do? Keep his mouth shut, something that's pretty easy for most guys.

BILL There are two theories of male emotional development: Evolution and Creation. The Evolution Theory says guys are actually very evolved emotionally, so evolved that they take rejection much harder than girls. The Creation Theory holds that guys were created like a lump of clay, and that's about it. Emotional thoughts just don't occur to them. Either way, you get a species that doesn't deal openly with feelings. Best bet is to feed them regularly, keep them in front of a sports channel or video game, and lower your expectations.
