BEIJING -- Two government officials chat behind a model of a new Christian

The term New Christian (cristianos nuevos in Spanish, cristãos novos
 church before they present the project to journalists.

Construction began in March on two large churches designed to accommodate a steady increase in the number of Christians in the capital. The government is paying $2.4 million for design and construction for the Nestorian Church Nestorian Church, Christian community of Iraq, Iran, and Malabar, India. It represents the ancient church of Persia and is sometimes called the Assyrian (or East Syrian) Church. It numbers about 175,000, including emigrants to the United States.  of Beijing. The Nestorian Church, also known as the Assyrian Church Assyrian Church: see Nestorian Church. , split from the Roman Catholic Church Roman Catholic Church, Christian church headed by the pope, the bishop of Rome (see papacy and Peter, Saint). Its commonest title in official use is Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church.  in the fifth century, but remains a close cousin.

Churches in China must register with the government or risk prosecution.
