The video contrasts the practices of the ineffective leader with those of a more seasoned one whose employees love him. The main character discovers, for example, that people like to know the reasons why they're being asked to do something instead of just being told to do it--even though the manager is smiling when he says it. The video is actually more about how leaders can achieve optimal levels of motivation, not provide inspiration. In my mind, "inspiration" suggests a catalyst to unusual creativity or brilliant performance. That's definitely not what goes in this program, though what does transpire is certainly valuable. At times the scenes with the young leader suggest a muted mut·ed adj. 1. a. Muffled; indistinct: a muted voice. b. As it is, the program seems uninspired in its execution. It's often flat and predictable. Probably more important, the content is standard fare. It can be found in any number of similar programs. The producer, Video Visions, has developed a series of brief videos on leadership (see, for example, Would I Follow Me?) that has generally received good ratings and a good reception in the market. Would I Inspire Me? isn't their best work. Recommendation Would I Inspire Me? has useful points for new leaders. But those points aren't new, and the video presentation doesn't have a lot of life.
