Testimony before a congressional subcommittee at age 19

April 22, 1996

One of the truly perverse things that the pro-abortion movement has done is to convince many people that the child conceived in rape can never have a worthwhile life. The pro-abortion movement constantly depicts children of rape and incest as somehow defective, tainted, unwanted--almost as if we carry some evil gene predisposing us to anti-social behavior. Everyone wants to live a complete and healthy life, but I do not believe killing a life to save a life is right. Who, besides God, knows what people embryos may become? What we do know is that performing research on a four-day old embryo will ensure that it never becomes a five-day old embryo--much less a 30-year-old actor, 40-year-old scientist who discovers a cure for Alzheimer's disease Alzheimer's disease (ăls`hī'mərz, ôls–), degenerative disease of nerve cells in the cerebral cortex that leads to atrophy of the brain and senile dementia. , 50-year-old congressman, or 91-year-old former president.

Embryonic stem cells are derived from a blastocyst (the blastula typical of placental mammals; see embryo), which is very young .)

But now, O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.
