Trend Micro Incorporated have announced that West Coast Labs has published an independent evaluation of competing small and medium business (SMB (1) (Small to Medium-sized Business) Also called "SME" (small to medium-sized enterprise), it refers to companies that are larger than the small office/home office (SOHO), but not huge. ) client-server security suites and determined that Trend Micro's Worry-Free Security product--Client Server Messaging Security, for SMB 3.0--offers the first class protection with low administrative efforts, most desirable for small business with little or no IT staff.

West Coast Labs, an independent organisation which tests and validates the functionality and performance of security products and which also developed the Checkmark certification system into one of the world's foremost certification programs, conducted a comparative assessment of three SMB-focused solutions--Symantec Client Security 3.0 for Groupware Software that supports multiple users working on related tasks in local and remote networks. Also called "collaborative software," groupware is an evolving concept that is more than just multiuser software which allows access to the same data. , McAfee Active AV Defense 8.0i and Trend Micro Client Server Messaging Security for SMB 3.0.

The review evaluated each solution's ease-of-use and its ability to automatically prevent, protect, and cleanup following virus outbreaks with potentially little or no IT intervention. Each product was graded based on the following criteria:

* Usability How easy something is to use. Both software and Web sites can be tested for usability. Considering how difficult applications are to use and Web sites are to navigate, one would wish that more designers took this seriously. * Ability to detect and defend against known and unknown future malware (MALicious softWARE) Software designed to destroy, aggravate and otherwise make life unhappy. See crimeware, virus, worm, logic bomb, macro virus and Trojan.  threats
