WorldGate Names Larry Irving to Its Board of Directors.

TREVOSE, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 22, 2000

WorldGate Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:WGAT) today announced the appointment of Larry Irving to the company's Board of Directors.

Mr. Irving served from 1993 to 1999 as Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information, and Director of the Commerce Department's National Telecommunications and Information Agency, where he was a principal advisor to the President, Vice President and Secretary of Commerce on domestic and international communications and information policy issues, including the development of policies related to the Internet and Electronic Commerce. As Assistant Secretary, Mr. Irving initiated and was the principal author of the landmark federal study, Falling Through the Net, which tracked access to telecommunications and information technologies across racial, economic, and geographic lines. He coined the term "Digital Divide" to describe unequal access to the new technologies, and was the Clinton Administration's top spokesman for policies intended to remedy the problem.
