For children, drowning is the second highest cause of injury-related death, and is the fourth leading cause of injury-related death for all ages. Drowning is a universal challenge, and the time has come to bring together those involved and interested in this issue to assist in the reduction of drowning victims This is a list of drowning victims, either real or fictional characters in chronological order. The reasons for drowning are diverse and range from suicide, to accidents or murders. . The aim of the World Congress on Drowning is to reduce the incidence of drowning throughout the world by bringing together all of the acknowledged experts and practitioners in a single critical congress on prevention, treatment, and rescue. This unprecedented effort will allow a sharing of information and will identify gaps in knowledge among lifeguards, physicians, epidemiologists, researchers, safety practitioners, business representatives, and public health specialists. Never before has a worldwide congress on drowning been organized that brings together so many experts to focus on this important issue. To generate more informed discussion and knowledge of drowning, nine task forces have been established. These groups are: epidemiology; prevention; rescue; resuscitation resuscitation /re·sus·ci·ta·tion/ (-sus?i-ta´shun) restoration to life of one apparently dead. cardiopulmonary resuscitation ; hospital treatment; immersion hypothermia hypothermia Abnormally low body temperature, with slowing of physiological activity. The congress is targeting a wide range of professional groups and disciplines that have a stake in all aspects of drowning. Among them are: lifesavers and other aquatic rescue experts; first aid; safety; and medical practitioners; researchers; standardization standardization In industry, the development and application of standards that make it possible to manufacture a large volume of interchangeable parts. Standardization may focus on engineering standards, such as properties of materials, fits and tolerances, and drafting experts; business and consumer representatives; tourism and recreation service providers; governmental representatives; and designers and product developers. Early registration is available until March 1, 2002. There will be a variety of formats in which information will be presented, including plenary sessions Plenary session is a term often used in s to define the part of the conference when all members of all parties are in attendance. These sessions may contain a broad range of content from Keynotes to Panel Discussions and are not necessarily related to a specific style of delivery. , concurrent breakouts, round table discussions, poster displays, video presentations, and exhibits. The first-ever drowning congress will be the information and network event for those in the field of drowning. The congress is the initiative of the Maatschappij tot Redding Redding, city (1990 pop. 66,462), seat of Shasta co., N central Calif., on the Sacramento River; inc. 1872.
