IP-Enabled Wireless Solution

Staff of Jersey War Tunnels, an historic site devoted to preserving the story of Jersey's occupation by the Germans during World War II, can now stay in touch and stay productive even when they are not at their desks, thanks to a new mobile communications system from Jersey Telecom and Nortel Networks (NYSE:NT)(TSX:NT).

The new system provides mobile communications throughout the Jersey War Tunnels facility, which extends over seven acres and more than one kilometre deep into the Meadow bank Valley in St. Lawrence. This includes Ho8 (Hohlgangsanlage 8), the former German Underground Hospital located in a complex series of tunnels built using forced labor.

The system is based on Nortel Networks Business Communications Manager, an Internet Protocol (IP)-enabled solution that integrates voice over IP and Quality of Service (QoS) data routing capabilities into a single, cost-effective network. Staff members use Nortel Networks Meridian Digital European Cordless Telephone (DECT) handsets that connect to the system using wireless base stations positioned at the Visitor Centre and throughout the tunnel network.
