Rice drops planned trip to Africa

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has canceled Africa entirely from an overseas trip this week to focus on Iraq and Middle East peace efforts, the State Dept. said. Rice will travel only to Portugal, which holds the rotating presidency of the European Union, for a meeting of the international diplomatic Quartet on the Middle East.

UNITED KINGDOM: Britain ordered the expulsion of 4 Russian diplomats over the Kremlin's refusal to extradite the key suspect in the poisoning death of former KGB agent Alexander Litvinenko.

HAITI: Supporters of exiled former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide marched through Haiti's capital, Port-au-Prince, demanding the ousted leader's return.

POLAND: The shaky gov't survived a political crisis when two coalition parties backed off a threat to walk out and bring early elections.
