World - FridayAbbas solidifies West Bank rule Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will consolidate his rule in the West Bank by installing a caretaker gov't that is expected to rule indefinitely, Palestinian officials said. The gov't will replace the emergency Cabinet formed after Hamas seized control of the Gaza Strip in mid-June and Abbas dissolved his unity gov't with the militant group. Abbas has been ruling by decree since declaring a state of emergency.
