World's Largest Traditional Jazz Festival Swings into Old Sacramento.

Memorial Day weekend (May 28-31, 2004), historic Old Sacramento once again takes center stage as the "birthplace of Jazz Jubilee." Now in its 31st year, the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee The Sacramento Jazz Jubilee is held every May during Memorial Day weekend in Sacramento, California, United States. It is organized and put on by the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society, usually sponsored by Raley's and Bel-Air supermarkets, and features some of the most noted jazz  is the largest traditional jazz festival Noun 1. jazz festival - a festival that features performances by jazz artists

As the place where it all started, Old Sacramento will feature over 100 of those bands, jamming with nonstop swinging music, dancing and lots of great food. With its colorful specialty shops, award-winning restaurants, museums and ample parking, Old Sacramento provides an amazing backdrop for a world of lively activities.

Although traditional jazz is the central focus of the Jubilee, bands from across the country, as far away as Sweden and Hungary, will bring the melodious sounds of all jazz styles to the streets of Old Sacramento: blues, swing, ragtime ragtime: see jazz.

The excitement begins in Old Sacramento with the opening day Jubilee Parade on Friday, May 28 at 11:45am. Pre-parade entertainment on the streets along the parade route begins at 10:45 am.

2004 Headliner

The Sacramento Jazz Jubilee is proud to present The Hues Corporation The Hues Corporation was a pop and soul trio formed at Santa Monica California in 1969. They are best known for their 1974 hit, "Rock the Boat". Before making it big in the music industry they would be the opening act for some big name stars including Frank Sinatra, Milton Berle, , a Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  based Rhythm and Blues rhythm and blues (R&B)

Any of several closely related musical styles developed by African American artists. The various styles were based on a mingling of European influences with jazz rhythms and tonal inflections, particularly syncopation and the flatted blues chords.

Children should be seen and heard!

The Children's Stage, located at the 1849 scene at Front & I Streets, brings the magic of jazz to young minds and is always a big hit. It's free for children under 12 years and their families.

Museums

All museums in Old Sacramento will offer free admission to those wearing Jubilee badges. Hear strolling jazz musicians, youth bands and see special jazz exhibits. Rail excursions down the Sacramento River feature the Sacramento Banjo Band.

Swing Dancing

Join the swinging fun with swing dance lessons, demonstrations by competition dancers and plenty of swinging music all weekend long.
