At long last, construction on the Missing Mile of the East Bank Trail has begun.

Crews from Wildish Construction of Eugene are clearing brush and taking out trees on the east side of the Willamette River Willamette River

River, northwestern Oregon, U.S. It flows north for 300 mi (485 km) into the Columbia River near Portland. Oregon's most populous cities are in its valley. The Fremont Bridge, a steel arch with a main span of 1,225 ft (373 m), crosses the river at Portland.

As the largest shopping center south of Portland and north of San Francisco, this mall comprises over 130 local and national stores and restaurants. . When they finish the $2.5 million project sometime in late November, the three-mile East Bank Trail will be complete.

The East Bank Trail is part of a 12-mile system of paved bikeways along both sides of the Willamette River.

"It's been a relief to get out there and start working on it," project manager Steve Gallup said. "We can't wait for it to get done."

The mile-long project will run from the Greenway Bridge near Valley River Center, wind through the Delta Ponds and follow the river until it meets up with the existing trail at the Boulders apartment complex.

About 800 feet of the 12-foot-wide concrete path will be over the ponds on a causeway, a low bridge built on concrete pilings. The causeway will include an overlook so people can stop and view wildlife in the ponds In the Pond is a 1998 novel by Ha Jin, who has also written Under the Red Flag, Ocean of Winds, and Waiting. He has been praised for his works relating to Chinese life and culture. .

One Wildish crew will work on the pathway; another will concentrate on the causeway. The cost of building the causeway is about equal to that of constructing the path, Gallup said.

Construction of the final leg of the trail was delayed for years as neighbors sought changes in the route, and permits from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers took longer than expected.
