 Medical Center has broken ground for a new $3 million building at 670 Parkside Avenue, Brooklyn, to house its Infant and Child Learning Center.

 Designs was the architect for the one-story brick building, which has ornamental fencing at the parapet and street levels and a playground on the roof. The 16,350 square-foot facility houses classrooms, offices and social work space for the Center's home-based program. Solomon Landau is the developer of the building, which is expected to be ready for occupancy before the end of the year.

SUNY SUNY - State University of New York  Downstate's Infant and Child Learning Center serves children from birth to five years of age, providing early intervention and preschool special education to youngsters with such medical disabilities as premature birth, neurological impairment, congenital anomalies, orthopedic impairment, and HIV HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), either of two closely related retroviruses that invade T-helper lymphocytes and are responsible for AIDS. There are two types of HIV: HIV-1 and HIV-2. HIV-1 is responsible for the vast majority of AIDS in the United States.  infection. In addition, the Center provides mental health services to children over five years of age.

"The new building will enhance our mission to provide quality care that maximizes each child's potential," said Dr. Joan Hittelman, Ph.D., Executive Director of the Center.
