Work or study?

QA I recently graduated from college with a bachelor's degree in business management. All the while, I've been working full-time at a financial company. There's little room for me to grow here, and I'm burned out. I'm planning to start an M.B.A. program soon, but want to get paid for the degree I just obtained. What should I do to start my real career and start living?

You've already started "your real career," Now is a good time to start looking for a company that will give you more promotional options, or one that will at least provide you with a position to prepare you for the next gig.

I am concerned, however, about your being "burned out," especially considering you're only 25 years old. It seems you're already heading down a dangerous road of making work your life. Career development and progress is essential, but not at the expense of your well-being--mental, physical, or spiritual. Living doesn't start with work--it starts with your decision to create and maintain a life of your own.

Either continue to work for a couple of more years before applying to business school, or go to business school full-time Then devote your spare time to building a life outside of your work or educational pursuits. --R.D.C.
