Work Begins at the Macalloy Corporation Facility in North Charleston, South Carolina to Address Environmental Threats.


ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 6, 1998--The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), independent agency of the U.S. government, with headquarters in Washington, D.C. It was established in 1970 to reduce and control air and water pollution, noise pollution, and radiation and to ensure the safe handling and  announced today that construction work is underway at the Macalloy Corporation facility in North Charleston, South Carolina North Charleston is a suburban city in the metropolitan area of Charleston, South Carolina. As of 2005 estimates, the city had a total population of 86,313. This ranks as 3rd in city limit populations within the state, after Columbia and Charleston. As defined by the U.S. . In accordance with an Administrative Order on Consent issued in June 1998, the Macalloy Corporation is performing work to abate abate v. to do away with a problem, such as a public or private nuisance or some structure built contrary to public policy. This can include dikes which illegally direct water onto a neighbors property, high volume noise from a rock band or a factory, an improvement  an imminent and substantial endangerment to the public health, welfare or the environment that may be presented by the actual or threatened release of hazardous substances, pollutants, and contaminants.

Currently, work includes construction of a storm water management system to minimize releases of chromium and other hazardous substances from the Macalloy facility into Shipyard Creek. EPA EPA eicosapentaenoic acid.
