THE PACESETTER ACT-1 GROUP THE Torrance-based temporary Staffing company tops this year's list of women-owned local companies with $622.7 million in 2004 revenues, up 19.5 percent from 2003. Founded in 1978 as a staffing agency for the entertainment industry, Act-1 employs more than 65,000 temporary workers, and has expanded to add background screening, graphic design, document management and travel units. Act-1 also operates California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W).
