Women's Basketball Coaches Association.The Women's Basketball Women's basketball is one of the few games which developed in tandem with men's. It became popular, spreading from the east coast of the United States to the west coast, in large part via women's colleges. This program was established to enable middle school and high school students to share in the excitement of the NCAA NCAA abbr. National Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Final Four via a meaningful, creative, and interactive experience. The WBCA and Minute Maid/Coca-Cola are striving to share and to promote the value of women's basketball among young women and their teams, coaches, and families. Basketball provides one avenue for building self-esteem among young girls and promotes a healthy, active lifestyle for girls and women. This year's contest will take place in Mississippi and Louisiana--the host state of the NCAA Women's Final Four and the 23rd WBCA National Convention. Students are asked to create a design or drawing that signifies the "gracefulness, strength, passion, and competitiveness" of women's basketball; while incorporating the elements of Minute Maid's commitment to helping young women lead a "healthy, active lifestyle." Students are to submit their original designs and drawings to the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, or NOCCA|Riverfront, is a professional arts training center for secondary school-age children. Once all entries have been received, a specially formed committee will judge the submitted artwork for their originality and creativity; appropriateness to the theme; and overall composition and design. NOCCA and the WBCA will select one First Prize winner from the following four categories: Grades Kindergarten-3; Grades 4-6; Grades 7-9; and Grades 10-12. From this pool, one Grand Prize winner will be selected to receive a $2,000 check and his/her winning artwork with be made into a poster. Each of the First Prize winners will receive a $500 check and the 12 Consolation Prize consolation prize n. Jaynes served as the Executive Director of the WBCA for 15 years and on September 1, 1996 was named Chief Executive Officer until her retirement in 2000. Jaynes now works as a consultant to the WBCA. The Betty F. Jaynes Internship Program provides six qualified individuals an opportunity to gain both professional and personal experiences in the world of women's sports.
