Woman survives after car plunges 20-feet

A Waverly woman survived when her car plunged nearly 20 feet over a bridge into a creek. State trooper Eric Dowdell said Lorraine Carrier, 28, was in her 1998 Saturn four-door car when she drove into a creek below a bridge off Wire Road about 9:15 a.m. Tuesday.

"I was told that she was injured, but I'm not sure where she was taken," Dowdell said. "I know she had her seat belt on though and that the accident is still being investigated."

Webb Sistrunk with Big Blue Towing out of Opelika and Auburn responded to the incident with the company.

Sistrunk said Carrier was picked up by a friend at the scene and driven to the hospital.

"(Carrier) seemed OK to me," Sistrunk's brother, Justin Sistrunk, said. "She just looked like she needed stitches in her hand. She was standing by the bridge while we pulled her car out."

Justin Sistrunk said two trucks responded to help pull Carrier's vehicle from the 20-foot drop.

The local towing company spent about an hour pulling the vehicle out of the creek, maneuvering it between the guardrails and power lines.

"My assumption was just that she drove off the bridge," Webb Sistrunk said.
