Woman, 54, loses arm in lion attack.

A SOUTH Wales woman whose arm was bitten off by a lion when she reached through the bars of an enclosure at an animal sanctuary in Spain was today recovering from emergency surgery. Anne Richards, 54, pictured, from Neath, had attempted to stroke one of the big cats when she was pounced on by a lioness who severed her arm from the elbow. The remainder of the pride of lions quickly surrounded the limb, rendering any retrieval attempt impossible.

Mrs Richards' condition has been described as stable.
