Wolves in shepherds' clothing: the revelation that former priest Paul Shanley raped several young boys has been made even more scandalous by evidence that Cardinal Law sheltered him from detection. (Culture War).

At the time of his death in October 1997, ten-year-old Jeffrey Curley of East Cambridge, Massachusetts, had known his two adult "friends," Charles Jaynes and Salvatore Sicari, for several months. The two adults enticed Jeffrey into a car, promising him $50 and a new bicycle if he joined them for a ride. Shortly thereafter, the two homosexual "lovers" attempted to rape the child, who resisted with everything his tiny frame could muster.

As a subsequent criminal trial showed, Jaynes -- a 300-pound auto mechanic -- subdued Jeffrey by sitting on him; he then suffocated the tiny child with a gasoline-soaked rag. Once the child was dead, Jaynes and his cohort raped the now-unresisting body. Their depraved appetites satiated, Jaynes and Sicari placed Jeffrey's body in a concrete-filled barrel and discarded it in a river. The car in which these unspeakable crimes were committed contained pornographic literature produced by NAMBLA -- the North American Man-Boy Love Association, a criminal syndicate composed of homosexuals who prey on young boys.

According to attorney Lawrence Fisoli, who represents Jeffrey's parents in a lawsuit against NAMBLA, the pederast organization trains homosexuals to stalk, seduce, and rape unsuspecting boys. As Father Enrique Rueda documented nearly two decades ago in his prescient study The Homosexual Network, NAMBLA "was founded in 1978 at a Boston conference on Man/Boy Love and the Age of Consent." In addition to publishing three journals, the organization created a "Prisoner Support Committee" and "Emergency Defense Fund" to aid homosexual child rapists in trouble with the law.

But Fr. Rueda's most shocking detail about NAMBLA's founding conference was the involvement of "Father Paul Shanley, representative of Boston's Cardinal [Humberto] Medeiros for sexual minorities...." According to an account of the event published in a magazine called Gays Week, Shanley spoke of a case in which a young boy enticed into a homosexual relationship "was rejected by family and society but helped by a boy-lover." Imprisoning the predatory adult homosexual, according to Shanley, "began the psychic demise of that child."

For years prior to attending NAMBLA's founding conference, Shanley was known to be (in words written by Cardinal Medeiros in a letter to the Vatican) "a troubled priest." The April 8th Boston Herald notes: "Shanley defended 'man-boy sex' publicly in his role as a 'street priest' as early as 1970...." Subsequent to the 1978 NAMBLA meeting, Cardinal Medeiros assigned Shanley to St. Jean's parish in Newton, Massachusetts, where he proceeded to act on his depraved impulses by raping several young boys entrusted to his pastoral care.

Documents recently released by the Boston Archdiocese disclose that Shanley "admit[ted] to the substance of complaints -- sexual activity with 4 adolescent males...." In fact, the archdiocese had known of Shanley's predatory perversion for decades -- but continued to assign him to posts in which he had access to potential victims. "All of the suffering that has taken place at the hands of Paul Shanley, a serial child molester for four decades ... none of it had to happen," insists attorney Roderick MacLeish, representing alleged victim Gregory Ford.

When damage-control efforts became too difficult for Catholic authorities in Boston, "the archdiocese sent him to California, with a letter ... lying to the West Coast bishop about Shanley's past ('I can assure you Father Shanley has no problem that would be a concern to your diocese')," recounts National Review's Rod Dreher (a conservative Catholic). "Shanley and his priest-lover set up a homosexual resort, where they allowed gay sex at poolside...." One guest at Shanley's resort was an emissary from Cardinal Bernard Law, who had succeeded Cardinal Medeiros.

"Another Law underling offered Shanley advice on how to avoid detection by his victims, and assured Shanley of his discretion," continues Dreher. "Law personally recommended Shanley for a job in New York City, in an inn for Catholic travelers. And in 1996, Law himself wrote to the child-raping cleric, thanking him for 'years of generous and zealous care." Since the "pedophile priest" scandal broke earlier this year, Cardinal Law has become notorious for his role in protecting scores of "priests" who had molested boys throughout the archdiocese.

It is vitally important to understand that Shanley - like many of the other child molesters sheltered by Cardinal Law -- was never a priest in the full sense of the word, but rather a subversive disguised as one. The late Rev. Francis Fenton was fond of saying: "Priests do not become Communists -- Communists become priests." The same principle holds true for the pederasts and cultural subversives whose long-term efforts to undermine the Catholic Church are just now coming to light through the unfolding "pedophile priest" scandal.

Following the blueprint created by Marxist theoretician Antonio Gramsci, those carrying out the assault on the American Catholic Church are trying to win a "war of position" by occupying strategically critical posts, particularly in the seminary system. That strategy's success is described in Goodbye! Good Men, by Catholic lay author Michael S. Rose. On the basis of detailed interviews with priests and former seminarians, Rose's carefully documented study illustrates how a "lavender mafia" of homosexuals and cultural revolutionaries have taken over much of the American Catholic Church's s seminary system. Not only did this precipitate the "pedophile priest" scandal, it also created an artificial "priest shortage" that can be used "to justify radical changes in the Church...."

In early April, Shanley was arrested in San Diego and extradited to Boston for trial. Cardinal Law has been deposed in a civil lawsuit accusing him of negligence in supervising John Geoghan, a Boston "priest" accused of molesting more than 130 children. Of course, the scandal is not confined to Boston, since dioceses across the nation have probably been infiltrated as well. But there is a certain satanic symmetry in the fact that the evil that inspired the murder of Jeffrey Curley was cultivated in his own community, with the help of people his community had looked to for spiritual guidance.
