Wolters Kluwer Legal unit acquires German publisher; enters Portuguese market.Wolters Kluwer Legal, Tax & Regulatory Europe unit has acquired Carl Heymanns Verlag KG (Cologne), one of Germany's leading academic and legal publishers. No terms of the deal, subject to German regulatory approval, were given. Journals covering such topics as criminology, civil procedure civil procedure n. the complex and often confusing body of rules and regulations set out in both state (usually Code of Civil Procedure) and federal (Federal Code of Procedure) laws which establish the format under which civil lawsuits are filed, pursued and tried. Civil procedure refers only to form and procedure, and not to the substantive law which gives people the right to sue or defend a lawsuit. Wolters Kluwer German publishing units include Herman Luchterhand Verlag, Werner, R.S. Schulz, Carl Link, C.W. Haarfield, the Jurion online service and the software provider AnNoText. Also, Wolters Kluwer has entered the legal publishing market in Portugal with the establishment of a partnership with Coimbra Coimbra (kōēm`brə), city (1991 pop. 96,142), capital of Coimbra dist., W central Portugal, on the Mondego River, in Beira Litoral. The old capital of Beira, it is a market center with small industries but is known chiefly for its history and for the famous university, which was founded (1292) by King Diniz in Lisbon but was Editora (Lisbon) to produce online services and tools for legal professionals in that country. Coimbra's current products will be integrated into Wolters Kluwer technology platforms. Wolters Kluwer Portugal will also launch: JusNet, a database designed to support lawyers in the preparation of cases; JusJournal, a legal information online diary of topics selected by legal specialists; and, JusGestao, a work tool that manages information such as payments, terms and invoices at the office. |
