Without borders.Sensuality, charisma, hypnotic 1. inducing sleep. 2. an agent that induces sleep. 3. pertaining to or of the nature of hypnosis or hypnotism. hyp·not·ic (h p-n cadences, and unadulterated emotion storms California's Barclay Theatre in Irvine this month in the form of the New World Flamenco flamenco, Spanish music and dance typical of the Gypsy, or gitano. Flamenco dancing is characterized by colorful costumes, intense and erotic movements, stamping of the feet (zapateado), and clapping of the hands (palmada); its execution is brilliant, noisy, and passionate. Flamenco music is believed to have originated in the early 19th cent. from the canto hondo [Sp. Festival. Yaelisa, an internationally-acclaimed flamenca, and special guest Savion Glover (above) are set to duel in a rhythmic and artistic collaboration. Son de la Frontera, a wandering yet elegant flamenco quintet, opens for the multicultural crossover. With such a lineup, no wonder this segment of the festival is called "Sin Fronteras" (Without Borders). The festival runs Aug. 4-13, Sin Fronteras Aug. 8-9. www.thebarclay.org.
