With a fine-toothed comb.

Ben Combs, who owns the Little Rock ad agency Combs & Co., didn't get everything he expected from the sale to another agency of advertising contracts he had with several Tunica, Miss., and Memphis entities.

So he has sued the other agency, Carpenter Sullivan Sossaman of Memphis, and is asking for a jury trial.

Combs signed a contract in June for Carpenter Sullivan Sossaman--which calls itself CS2--to take over contracts in October. The advertisers are the Tunica Convention & Visitors Bureau, Tunica RiverPark, Tunica Arena, Tunica Airport and Tunica National Golf & Tennis, as well as cooperative programs with several of the city's casino resorts and the Memphis Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The contract stipulated that Combs could earn up to $400,000 in fees from CS2. Specifically, CS2 agreed to pay Combs 10 percent of the first $600,000 earned quarterly and 15 percent for any fees earned above the amount.

So far, however, Combs has received zip.

Steven Quattlebaum of Quattlebaum Grooms Tull & Burrow PLLC is representing Combs. He said the Memphis agency has not provided an explanation for not honoring the agreement.

"We expect them to live up to the terms of their agreement," Quattlebaum said. "Ben Combs has completely performed his part of the agreement and without him and his efforts they would not have received the benefit of this relationship that they now have."
