 Keep America Beautiful Keep America Beautiful is an environmental organization founded in 1953. It is the largest community improvement organization in the United States, with over 560 affiliate organizations (similar to local chapters) and more than 15,000 participating communities in their signature , Inc., the not-for-profit litter prevention and education organization leading the annual spring-long cleanup effort.

This year, the Glad Products Company once again will donate the bags to be used by cleanup volunteers. With cleanups going on in 38 states, the District of Columbia District of Columbia, federal district (2000 pop. 572,059, a 5.7% decrease in population since the 1990 census), 69 sq mi (179 sq km), on the east bank of the Potomac River, coextensive with the city of Washington, D.C. (the capital of the United States). , Puerto Rico Puerto Rico (pwār`tō rē`kō), island (2005 est. pop. 3,917,000), 3,508 sq mi (9,086 sq km), West Indies, c.1,000 mi (1,610 km) SE of Miami, Fla. , and Winnipeg, Canada, the company expects to hand out as many as 3.75 million trash and recycling bags.

"We're delighted to be part of the 2000 Great American Cleanup," said Judy Chen, associate marketing manager for Glad. "Most of us take litter prevention for granted, but litter continues to be a major problem, just as it was when we joined forces with Keep America Beautiful 15 years ago."

In 1986, Glad teamed up with Keep America Beautiful to create the first national cleanup effort, and for 13 years was sole sponsor of the Glad Bag-A-Thon. In 1999, the Glad Bag-A-Thon evolved into the Great American Cleanup(TM), a cornerstone program of Keep America Beautiful.

In addition to donating bags, Glad has partnered with major retailers in Florida, Georgia, and Texas, to help support on-going litter prevention and beautification initiatives. When customers purchase Glad products during the Great American Cleanup(TM), a portion of the proceeds will be donated to state affiliates of Keep America Beautiful. The 1999 Great American Cleanup(TM) mobilized volunteers to collect approximately 63,000 tons of litter, plant an estimated 71,000 trees, and organize 103,000 beautification efforts, 190,000 recycling programs, and 80,000 clothing collections.
