"Achieving the CMMI level 5 ver1.2 assessment would enhance Wipro's ability to offer significant business value to customers through globally leading-edge quality and process ownership," commented K K Raman, Lead assessor from KPMG, while presenting the final findings on December 20, 2006. He further added, "This assessment also highlights Wipro's ability to implement better predicting techniques and ensure a more proactive quantitative management across various types of projects."

The lead assessor also observed that the data from the practice of the quality system was analysed and fed back at the strategic and operational level thereby ensuring continual improvement.

Sambuddha Deb, Chief Quality Officer, Wipro Technologies said, "For over 15 years, Wipro has been setting standards for quality and process excellence in the IT services industry and has been amongst the first to adopt every key industry-standard or certification. This CMMI Level 5 v1.2 is a key milestone in our quality journey and reinforces Wipro's commitment to delivering consistently high levels of quality, predictability and ongoing cost savings to our customers."

Achieving CMMI Level 5 acknowledges Wipro's ability to offer highest possible value to customers by providing better requirement specification, more powerful design evaluation, and enhanced quantitative project management with higher predictability. As the framework assesses an organization's ability to develop solutions tailored to the business end-user, the Level 5 assessment attests to Wipro's deep capabilities in architecting end-to-end, process-driven business solutions for their clients. To continuously achieve success, Wipro consultants blend superior knowledge of complex information systems with domain expertise, delivering practical solutions that generate tangible results.

Wipro had earlier achieved Level 5 based on the CMMI Ver. 1.1 model in 2002.

The Carnegie Mellon[R] Software Engineering Institute (SEI) had released the latest version 1.2 of CMMI model and latest version 1.2 of Standard CMMI Appraisal Methodology for Process Improvement (SCAMPI) in August 2006. Subsequently, SEI authorized only a selected few High Maturity Lead Appraisers (HMLA HMLA Marine light/attack helicopter squadron (US DoD) ) after undergoing a stringent evaluation criteria.
