Look for Hermes, Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Givenchy, Kenzo, Versace, Armani, Lanvin, Cartier, and every Swiss watchmaker worth knowing. We recommend a stay at the Hotel Annapurna and Byblos des Neiges.

* Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. Not to be outdone by the French, the who's who of Italian society favors this spot. The main pedestrian thoroughfare, Corso Italia, is home to some 250 elegant shops and chic boutiques offering the latest in Italian fashions and furs. And the food is outstanding. Hotel Ancora or Hotel Cristallo come highly recommended.

* Zermatt, Switzerland. A pristine environment, it was one of the first ski resorts in the world to ban cars, and is known for its sheer beauty and spectacular mountain scenery. Views of the Matterhorn, the mountain on the Italian-Swiss border, dominate. Thanks to the altitude, stargazing star·gaze
