Winners of PianoArts competition announced.


Pianist Michelle Naughton, age 17, from Madison, Wisconsin, was named the first-prize winner of the PianoArts 2006 Biennial National Piano Concerto and Solo Competition.

Naughton performed in the final round with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra (MSO) is an orchestra based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The symphony performs at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. The MSO presents more than 150 Classics, Classical Connections, Pops, and family concerts annually for more than 200,000 people  under the baton of PianoArts Music Director Andrews Sill. Presenting her with the $5,000 award was Elizabeth Joy Roe, PianoArts 1999 first-prize winner. Naughton also won the Wisconsin Contestant Prize of $350.

The second prize of $3,000 was awarded to Pallavi Mahidhara, age 18, from Bethesda, Maryland. Mahidhara previously has won the MTNA MTNA Music Teachers National Association
MTNA Middle Tennessee Nursery Association (McMinnville, Tennessee) 
 Junior and Senior Piano Competitions. The third prize of $1,500 went to Monica We, age 17, from Fairfax, Virginia. By special request of the jury, a fourth-place prize was awarded to Konrad Binienda, age 17, from Akron, Ohio. All finalists performed Beethoven's Concerto No. 3 in C Minor, Opus 37, Allegro con brio, with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra.

Winning the Audience Communication Award of $300 was Douglas Kanner, age 16, from Plymouth, Massachusetts. Also awarded were two scholarships to the International Keyboard Institute and Festival at Mannes College of Music Mannes College The New School For Music is a music conservatory located in New York City, on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
