WindLogics Adding Staff and Technology to Meet Growing Demand; The Company is Adding Scientific/Business Resources and Significantly Growing Computing Capability.


ST. PAUL, Minn. -- WindLogics announced today the promotion of Lee Alnes to Vice President and General Manager; the hiring of a business development manager, two scientists, a meteorologist, an engineer and a sales position; and the addition of significantly more computing capability.

"WindLogics is experiencing tremendous sales growth with an anticipated quadrupling of wind energy contracts in 2005 over last year," said Mark Ahlstrom, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. "This surge in demand for our highly reliable and accurate wind forecasting services is driving the added investment in the business. The wind industry has never been more attractive, with increasing prices for traditional energy sources, tax incentives and technology innovations."

Computing capability - 3 times more processors, 6 times more storage to 30 terabytes

WindLogics has recently tripled the number of computer processors from a year ago bringing the total to over 300 processors applied to weather modeling applications. Approximately half of the processors are in Grand Rapids, MN and half in St. Paul. Online computer storage capacity is now nearly six times the capacity of a year ago with over 30 terabytes (30,000 gigabytes). "This computing powerhouse is an industry first, giving WindLogics an unparalleled ability to deliver very accurate wind energy estimates for any location on the globe in weeks rather than in months or years," said Ahlstrom.

Growing scientific and business staffing resources

Lee Alnes was promoted to Vice President and General Manager, reporting to CEO Mark Ahlstrom. In his new position, Lee is responsible for overall management of the company's activities in the wind energy industry, as well as weather systems and services for the government, military and industry. "Lee has been a tireless leader since joining WindLogics in 2000 and plays a key role in managing our rapidly growing business," said Ahlstrom. He began with the company as vice president of marketing and sales and was instrumental in launching the company's wind energy services and the WxPortal.com service. Lee has over 20 years of business experience in both emerging growth companies and large multinational corporations.

Six key positions have been added to the WindLogics team with five located in St. Paul and one in Grand Rapids. These include the following:

Dave Savage is the Business Development Manager working on new business development and project management at the WindLogics St. Paul office. ). Dave holds an M.S. in Environmental Science and Policy from Johns Hopkins University Johns Hopkins University, mainly at Baltimore, Md. Johns Hopkins in 1867 had a group of his associates incorporated as the trustees of a university and a hospital, endowing each with $3.5 million. Daniel C. .

Dr. Bob Conzemius is a Senior Scientist located in the Grand Rapids office. Dr. Conzemius has an M.S. in meteorology from MIT MIT - Massachusetts Institute of Technology , and a PhD. from the University of Oklahoma University of Oklahoma, abbreviated OU, is a coeducational public research university located in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. Founded in 1890, it existed in Oklahoma Territory near Indian Territory 17 years before the two became the state of Oklahoma.  and has extensive background in severe convective systems. Most recently he held a post-doc position at Colorado State University Colorado State University, at Fort Collins; land-grant with state and federal support; chartered 1870, opened 1879 as an agricultural college, assumed present name in 1957. There is a veterinary teaching hospital, an agricultural campus, and a research campus. , where he was investigating mid-latitude mesoscale convective vortices.

Devon Yates joins the Forecasting group as a Wind Forecasting Engineer in St. Paul. She will be working closely with WindLogics developers and scientists on the operational aspects of applying Computational Learning Systems to the Wind Energy Forecasting System. Devon recently received a Master's Degree in Wind Turbine Engineering from the Technical University in Denmark (DTU). She also holds a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University Carnegie Mellon University, at Pittsburgh, Pa.; est. 1967 through the merger of the Carnegie Institute of Technology (founded 1900, opened 1905) and the Mellon Institute of Industrial Research (founded 1913). .

Tony Meys joins WindLogics as a Senior Scientist in the St. Paul office. Most recently, Tony was the Atmospheric Science Specialist for the Army High Performance Computing Research Center Noun 1. . Tony was formerly the Vice President of Meteorological Development for Digital Cyclone, responsible for the implementation and operation of more than 50 regional forecast models. Previously, he served as manager of the Environmental Sciences Group at Cray Research and was a weather consultant to Federal Express. Tony holds multiple degrees in Meteorology, Computer Science and Law and was admitted to the Minnesota Bar in May 1995.

Rick Walker holds the position of Meteorologist with the WindLogics Operations team in St. Paul. He will be contributing to wind resource analysis studies, including meso-scale and micro-scale modeling and statistical analysis and reporting. Rick holds a Master of Science in Atmospheric Science degree, from the University of Wyoming UW is a national research university prominent in the fields of environment and natural resource research, specializing in agriculture, energy, geology, and water resource related fields.  and a Bachelor of Science Noun 1. Lee Scholder joined WindLogics as Sales Support Specialist in the St. Paul office. She is responsible for conducting technical sales support, customer support and technical marketing support. Lee holds a B.S. in Environmental Advocacy from the University of California The University of California has a combined student body of more than 191,000 students, over 1,340,000 living alumni, and a combined systemwide and campus endowment of just over $7.3 billion (8th largest in the United States).  at Davis, a J.D. Cum Laude, from the William Mitchell College of Law William Mitchell College of Law is a law school located in St. Paul, Minnesota. It offers full and part-time legal education in pursuit of the Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree. It is accredited by the American Bar Association. , St. Paul, MN, and she is an M.S.
