Wind River Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:WIND), a leading provider of software and services for connected smart devices, today announced Tornado(R) for Managed Switches (TMS) 2.0 support for the Intel(R) IXP1200 Network Processor, a widely used programmable processor that accelerates development of next-generation Internet products. This announcement extends Wind River's strategy to offer customers integrated development platforms that support industry leading processors.

By combining Intel's IXP1200 Network Processor with an infrastructure development platform such as TMS, network equipment vendors can quickly and easily develop leading edge Internet infrastructure equipment. TMS 2.0 enables flexible integration of customer-specific features into networked equipment. The TMS development platform is portable and upgradeable across a wide range of hardware architectures, has comprehensive packet or cell processing in real time for Layer 3 communications applications, and quickly adapts to new and evolving software standards.

The TMS platform incorporates Wind River's powerful Tornado integrated development environment (IDE), the VxWorks(R) real-time operating system (RTOS), and the common set of protocol and management components required for enterprise-class routing and switch-based devices. In addition, the TMS platform can easily be extended to address a variety of network devices, making it a more complete network application solution.
