WinCoder From InterVideo Brings DVD-Quality Capture to Home PCs.

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 10, 2000
Latest Component of InterVideo's WinCinema Suite Eclipses
Current PC Capabilities; Provides Software-Only MPEG-2 Video Capture
InterVideo, Inc., a leading provider of PC digital video and audio solutions for consumers and OEMs, today announced OEM availability of InterVideo WinCoder. The latest component of InterVideo's WinCinema(TM) suite, the software allows users to take video and audio from all of the most popular sources (including analog and DV camcorders, USB cameras, and AVI and DV files) and encode it in real time into compact MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 files.
By dramatically reducing the hard disk storage requirements for video files -- without compromising video quality -- WinCoder makes capturing and storing high quality video and audio practical for PC users and archiving and publishing on CD-R/RW media. MPEG-2 files are typically 10-times smaller than the PC-standard AVI file format. Using predefined capture settings, users can encode video in resolutions ranging from DVD-quality to highly compressed, compact VCR quality as well as Video CD (VCD) format.
"Video input devices, particularly USB cameras and 1394-connected camcorders, are showing explosive growth in popularity," said Michael Demeyer, senior director of Video Product Marketing for InterVideo. "WinCoder is an excellent solution for PC, USB camera and 1394 board OEMs looking to add high-value support for these devices to their product offerings. Only a year ago, hardware products were required to perform WinCoder-like functionality, at over $1000 per unit."
All WinCoder-encoded files can be played back with InterVideo's WinDVD(TM) and other popular MPEG video playback products. WinCoder is 100% compatible with Microsoft Windows 98SE, Windows 2000, and Windows Millennium.
WinCoder accepts composite video, S-Video, DV, and USB video devices and converts these to audio/video output streams in MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 formats with user-defined video quality settings. Users can easily create and save their favorite recording profiles. WinCoder fully supports Microsoft's Direct Show technology and works with all WDM-compliant capture devices. WinCoder uses InterVideo's DirectShow 32-bit audio and video capture and multiplexing filters, which dramatically outperform Video for Windows 16-bit legacy drivers. In addition, IBP capture permits users to capture any frame in a video stream, unlike many other systems that support only frame capture of I-frames.
WinCoder is part of InterVideo's WinCinema, all-in-one, advanced suite of video and audio processing software. Other WinCinema components include InterVideo's award-winning WinDVD player, WinRip(TM) (MP3 encoder and player), WinCoder(TM) (encoder for MPEG-1 & 2 video), WinProducer(TM) (video editor), and WinDTV(TM) (HD and SD TV decoder). InterVideo will be demonstrating WinDVR, along with the rest of the WinCinema suite, November 13-17 at Fall Comdex, Booth L6530 in the Las Vegas Convention Center.
