William Joseph McCarthy, 62.

AUSTIN, TX William Joseph McCarthy, age 62, an actuarial consultant for Allen Bailey and Associates, passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of April 6, 2009.

Bill joined Allen Bailey & Associates, Inc. in December 2007. He was also a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries since 1974, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries in 1974 and became an enrolled actuary in 1978. He also served as the chief actuary of three small to mid-sized publicly traded life insurance companies over a period of seventeen years. Prior to that he had served twenty-three years as an actuary with two mid-sized to large mutual life insurance companies.

Bill, much loved by his family, is survived by his wife of 41 years, Nancy, two sons, William Jr. and Jason, and one daughter, Corinne. Bill also has two grandchildren, Zachary and Alexa. William is preceded in death by one granddaughter, Natalia Rita, in 2005.

Bill, a resident of Austin since 2004, originally hails from Massachusetts, where he graduated from Saint John's High School in 1964 and received advanced degrees from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Mathematics in 1968 and Northeastern University in 1970 in Actuarial Science.

He is survived by his parents, Edward and Rita McCarthy, one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Rosemary McCarthy, Worcester, MA, and one sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Brad Farmer also of Worcester, and several nieces and nephews.

Bill had a great interest in astronomy, politics and enjoyed wilderness camping with his family.

Family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m - 2:00 p.m on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at Austin Peel & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at that location at 2:00 p.m.
