William J. Shelow, Jr., Named President of Atlantic Financial Group.

NORTH HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Duncan Financial Group, LLC, today announced the appointment of William J. Shelow, Jr., as president of its Virginia-based subsidiary Atlantic Financial Group, LLC. Shelow moves to Atlantic Financial after serving five years as president and chief operating officer of Harleysville Life Insurance Company in Harleysville, Pa.

Established in 1990, Atlantic Financial Group has offices in Richmond, Va., Asheville, N.C., and North Huntingdon, Pa., with plans to expand over the next 18 months into Indiana and Ohio. It is a full-service independent brokerage general agency offering products and services to financial professionals throughout the mid-Atlantic and southeastern regions of the U.S.

Shelow, a resident of Collegeville, Pa., said that as president of Atlantic Financial, he plans to focus on service relationships and growth. "We will work to increase independent distribution and improve the life insurance, employee benefits, 401(k) and investment product penetration to our broker distribution network."

Shelow served in various management capacities at Harleysville Life Insurance Company from 1984, and was named the firm's president and chief operating officer in 2003. Previously, he had held positions with Swigart Associates and Columbus Mutual Life Insurance Company, where he began his career as an agent.

Shelow graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1978 with a B.S. degree in individual and family studies. He earned a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation from American College in 1986 and his Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation from the American Institute of Property Casualty Underwriters in 1992. In addition, he is a Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC), earned in 2003 from American College.
